Translation. I'll do it at some point. Just don't ask me when.

It's about time. What I imagine will be the funniest bit will be the hard-right's reaction to gays in the military when all of them came up with bullshit deferrals to never have to serve at all.

My father had gays in his outfit in Burma in 1944. Back then fighting the Japanese seemed more important than asking people who they slept with.

I never understood the importance of knowing who people sleep with. Does it interfere with the task you are supposed to do? Of course not.

That was a totally unworkable solution but a I guess it was a product of it's time. Huge organizations like the US army don't exactly move quickly.
Obama was getting a lot of flack from his support base over this so it's about time that he did something.

Rather than all this pointless political flailings, I'd rather he figure out what he's going to do in Afghansitan instead. He could draft all the gays he wants as long as it puts boots on the ground.

My neighbors are gays. Their apartment is above mine. I have nothing to say about them. I never hear them and almost don't see. I appreciate this kinda neighbors. Don't bother me and I won't bother you. :D

Depends, they diddn't allow gays in the military maybe for religous, personal reasons but it also includes the same reason they diddn't want women in the military and now that they are for the same reason they don't want men and women sleeping in the same quarters. Life in the military can be dull and you don't really get a lot of action. I mean unti'll you are allowed to get off base.

The same reason why companies don't allow co-worker relations.

    ?????

The importance of having military personnel who can trust each other and work
together cannot be understated, it can be one of the most important concepts
    in the military.

Anything that threatens that is to be viewed with suspicion.

For tens of thousands of years, no women.

    No Slaves.
    No Blacks.
    No Jews.

And absolutely no homosexuals, they threaten the cohesion of a military unit
    with their sexual perversion.

Or, so it was.. wasnt that long ago homosexuality was a crime in the West.

    So things change.

Freed slaves ok, but nothing above private.

Then blacks ok, but in segregated units with white officers,
no black senior officer ranks allowed.

Then desegregation of the armed forces.

    Then women.

Then don't question the sexual orientation of another soldier.

And I guess the official policy will change again,
I wonder if the next step is to issue pink uniforms as well.

I wonder how both of you missed this basic knowledge.
