A controversial blog written by a Vancouver-born political columnist and posted on the website of British newspaper The Daily Telegraph is inflammatory and discriminates against aboriginal people, says the former chief of a Vancouver Island First Nation.

This is sample of Ms Marsden's blog:

It’s no coincidence that the best countries in the world are either European or founded by Europeans. Everywhere they go, European immigrants make things better – until they’re asked to leave, at which point everything usually descends back into chaos. Not that they ever get any thanks for it.

Not quite the way First Nations people see it.

Absolutely correct. Everything is about Natives, in fact the hockey jersey even has to have native representation on it. There is more to BC then Indians, but you wouldn't know it looking at the Vancouver Olympics.

Yes well the Telegraph. What do you expect?

Fact is though natives are 'just as bad'. They know little about the world they live in - which is ironic. They know even less about their own history unless it was the portion that was written down by whitie -- also ironic. Natives see the world as divided in two: them and everyone else. When Columbus first set foot in the Americas there was half a million native Americans from the arctic circle to the Rio Grande. How many are there now? They do not realize that the entire sum total of their peoples and culture is not much more than a cork bobbing on a sea of human history. I can understand their mistrust of 'white man' education but the fact is our education isn't 'white'. Invention of the written word is not 'white'. Plenty of physics and medicine is not 'white', yet they dismiss the whole kit and kabodle as 'white'. A poor rational for keeping oneself ignorant.

Yes yes I know our (recent) past is full of crimes against them. I know. I can't make excuses for that, but that alone will not make things better for them and it sure as hell won't save their culture. Consider the Japanese. Were they much better at the time? What would've happened if they had discovered/Colonized North America first? Would ther eeven be a single native left to complain about their treatment?

The crimes committed against the Natives are there and they can't be denied. They can't be made up for either. They are simply not willing to take responsibility for themselves and instead insist we do it.

Rachel says - "The mascots for the games are various hybrids of legendary native indian animals that could only ever exist only after a good toke-up of Canadian weed: a half-whale half-bear hybrid (Miga), a whale-thunderbird-bear hybrid (Sumi), and a sasquatch (Quatchi)."

I fear she is somewhat misinformed...it's the magic mushrooms that'll do it to you. :D

Getting quite tired of natives always bitching about something. You know I really think they are getting a lot worse than Quebec sepretists which I never deemed possible.

Also rofl at that article stating natives calling the new olympic shit a rip off of native culture. You get somebody non-native who agrees with them and all of a sudden he or she is a racist. Very nice. Whitey the racist stereo-type wins again!

Racist? That is a matter of opinion but it's hard to listen to certain Natives call someone racist when I see it many times over in the CBC comments. There are posters in the CBC forums who deserve the "racist" title but there are many who don't but yet are labelled one as soon as they disagree with an Aboriginal's point of view.

Funnier still is the same people claiming her blog is racist (again, matter of opinion) don't seem to mention Horn's "Mohawk Nation News". Actually news is the wrong word. How about we call it "Mohawk Nation Propaganda".

I agree with Akhenaten's point that Natives can be just as bad as anyone else when it comes to racism. Racists really can come from all walks and it's a shame their hearts are so dark that they can not enjoy what someone else has to offer. I knew a Native who beat on people because they were white, I knew a white who beat on a African immigrant because he was black. Heck, I even knew a girl from Vietnam who openly told someone (who was white) "I don't date your kind".

Since Ottawa (and the provinces) are scared to criticize anything natives are doing (or enfoce the law) all they do is throw money at them. The one effort to make aboriginal bands accountable was shot down by Paul Martin. Until that happens don't expect federal cash to be used properly.

Who screams racist though, the average resident who lives in deplorable Third World conditions, or the chiefs and their councils who run the places like their own little banana republics?
