If I was an NHL organization GM with a Canadian based AHL team, I'd grab him, he will fill seats, for some reason Canadian AHL teams struggle filling their barns

Agreed, I am truly surprised they didn't send him to Abbotsford.
Having said that, he had a good run and did what he set out to do, but I never saw him actually making the team.

He wanted a top 6 spot?!? Mighty unrealistic if you ask me, especially given his age and time away from the game.

I think it was more that if he could not play at that level (top six), a guy that had the skill and talent he had, was not prepared for 4th line spot duty, unrealistic for sure though, but he can dream, we never played in the league, but I am sure you thought about it to, I have.

I understand why he felt that way, but if he really wanted a shot, he should have approached it the same way Claude Lemieux did last season, which was to take any spot the coach needed filled.

Lemieux played in China for San Jose's Asian minor league team, then played in the AHL and finally got called up before the playoffs. That's a guy who really wanted a shot, not someone who insists on a top 6 spot.

Obviously Fleury and Lemieux play two very different games, but if Fleury really wanted a top 6 spot, he should have said, hey, I'll take a 4th line spot and work my way up to the top 6. To me, it sounds like he just wanted attention and a last little bit of glory.

And oh yeah, I think just about every Canadian kid dreams of playing in the NHL at some point in their life. I'm not much of a skater, so I knew that I never had a chance...but I did play shinny at Northlands Coliseum (Rexall Place) several times. That was awesome! On the Oilers bench there are smartass comments carved into the wood by Semenko and some of the other 80s crew.

It would of been an ideal place for him to play for the year, now I'm thinking this had more to do with being reinstated into the league and now he can get his nomination for the Hall of Fame.

A classy move by the Flames.

Man that hurts to say that.

No he agreed with the Flames management that if he didn't make top 6 they would not retain him.

Awww, I knew it was going to happen but I really have to give him credit for the effort he put into it in the pre season.
