The phone consultation fee, recently proposed by the BCMA in discussions with the Ministry of Health, is $14.74, half the current office-visit fee.

So the fee is $29.48... I guess I was ripped off. I paid $40 when I had to visit the doctor before I got healthcare.

Anowho, where I come from, doctors have an hour planned each day for phone consultation. And yes, it costs when you call, and is covered by healthcare.
I always assumed they did the same here, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe something to start with, because sometimes, you don't need to see a doctor, but just advice on something. Going to a doctor for something minor is a waste of everybodies time, imho.

Given all the various illnesses that have flu like symptoms I see this as being a recipe for disaster.

I you need advice in Alberta you can call the public health office, staffed by nurses and mostly used by parents with babies but they are available for other consultations.

SiCKO introduced the whole idea of calling a doctor to me. I'd love it if we went a step further and had house calls.

We used to, along time ago when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Now, forget it. They get paid by the number of patients they see. When you go into the doctors office you get exactly 15 minutes of his time and if you've got a problem that takes longer than 15 minutes to explain you've gotta take out two appointments so he can bill for you twice.

So the chance of ever seeing doctors making house calls is somewhat less likely than Pamela Anderson becomming a virgin again.
