Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said his party would appoint an independent body to ensure all government advertising is free of political content.

We don't need more bureaucracy and cost to implement this. The PMO just issues a directive to the Cabinet. But these are the Liberals looking for more government; this won't be their last proposal to involve a new "independent body".

How about a promise to STOP spending tax dollars on advertising...PERIOD? It's waste.

    edited for Tarzan-speak.

that shouldn't be difficult, the Liberals have never been good at political content.

    Where's Iggy's Red Book, eh?

I remember hearing the PC government bitching about this when the libs re-did all the Canadian logos with this:
    Canada-logo.jpg

Maybe someone can show what the Canadian government logo was before this.

While we're at it.. Isn't the CBC already just the media arm of the Liberals anyways?

Don't matter what they promise. Ain't gonna win anyhow. Not with king Iggy at the helm. Voters aren't that stupid.

What did the old logo look like?

The Canada wordmark is mandatory on virtually all of the applications mentioned above. Established in 1980, the Canada wordmark is essentially a logo for the government of Canada

This came out of the Federal Identity Program:

In 1969, the Official Languages Act was established to ensure the equality of English and French in all federal jurisdictions. That same year, a task force found that the Canadian government was conveying a confused image to the populace through a hodge-podge of symbology and typefaces (fonts). In 1970, the FIP was created to standardize a corporate identity for the Canadian government.

If I remember correctly, the Canadian coat of arms was the official government symbol. But it was too British-looking for Trudeau, so it had to be changed.

Is this the Liberals first "plank" in their upcoming campaign? Does it get better from here or is this it?
