The risk of preventable deaths in custody remains "unacceptably high," despite changes made by the Correctional Service of Canada, the federal prison ombudsman said Friday.

Prison suicides should be encouraged, we do not need criminals. Cost less to dig a hole than keep them behind bars

You know its one thing for an ombudsman to make recommendations. Its an entirely different thing to try to convince the public and politicians to increase the funding to put these thing into effect for prisoners.

Seems to me the easy fix would be to press severe charges against the person(s) responsible for their safe keeping at the time of event.

There is no mention that the majority of those who do commit are first time offenders and they are overwhelmed by the surroundings , You cannot watch all 24 7 every move they make not enough eyes to do the job.
