A Mississauga woman and her husband have been asked to take down the Canadian flag they keep in a tree in front of their home, but they want to honour a relative heading to Afghanistan.

I could see it being hung from a window or a pole, but from a tree? I dunno what to think of that.

Keep it up no matter what as long as it is not up side down , it is to be proud of .

Only supposed to be upsidedown when the country is in distress.

9/11 would have been a legitamate reason for the American flag to be upsidedown.

Only military units fly it upside-down to signify that they are in distress. It's not for civillians.

The flag should also not be flown at night unless it is illuminated and should be destroyed when it becomes faded or torn.

If it is for their son or whatever then keep it up 24 7 as it is for a good cause and shows them we care .

Well, I hope a neighbor donates some time or money to have a flag pole installed.

    THE FLAG CODE

You can't tell me that planes flying into skyscrapers doesn't fit the bill. It was only 4, but it could have been 40 for all they knew at the time.

This is just bullshit. Offended by our country's flag?

Whoever filed the complaint should have one shoved up their ass on the way back to the boat they're being sent back "home" on.

I'd love to see far more flags waving in our country.

Let's see, I've seen footage of demonstrators(IN CANADA!!), burn the flag, spit on the flag and trample the flag, but someone can't hang one to support friends or family going to war? Regardless of where it was?

One complaint in 3 years in that entire complex and they have to remove it now?

Pretty sad that the offended moron didn't have the balls to at least bring it up to the "offender" before complaining.

And finally, "boooooooo" to the company for not telling the complainers to take a flying fuck at the moon.

I've got to agree with you on this, if you are going to fly the flag it should be done in an appropriate manner.....from a pole or in some other respectful manner, not just hung from a tree.

That's a really crappy news article.

However, an on-call manager said the property management company does not have a problem with anyone flying Canadian flags -- it just wants the Maple Leaf hung properly.

"There's no problem with anybody flying the flag in a respectful manner that a Canadian flag deserves," he said.

"Fly it proudly, just don't fly it in a tree."

So do they want it taken down or hung properly. I'm guessing the reporters didn't bother to get to the truth because this way it makes some people good and others bad which makes for better copy. I guess a simple miss-communication dosen't sell newspapers.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong,( and I frequently am), but until relatively recently, wasn't it an offense to have the flag in your window? I believe it still is if it's hanging sideways.

Well then I was guilty of that. Although by the nature of the shape of my window it would have only shown a maple leaf had it been hung upright. And I made damn sure to replace it whenever it faded.
