Four skiers crashed among a run of seven. Ambulances hauled away two of the injured. The men's jump preliminaries at the water ski world championships Friday were a disaster, then a controversy.
What do you expect? Maybe if the skiers wore Calgary Flames jerseys the Calgary media would be out in droves. Maybe they just need directions to the place since it's 40 klicks from the Saddledome.
If their there, how come I had to go and find yesterdays results myself. If I was the one putting the money out, I'd like the locals to know the line up today and have a few more people think, gezzz maybe we should go out there today and see what it's all about. Do you think that person cares if it's in any other paper in Canada.
The Herald writes a story like the one I posted from Friday and then doesn't follow it up . Like I said it was Saturday and it's a day off.
We had the Alberta mens curling here a couple of years ago, only Ed media covering it, but then again. there wasn't anybody from Calgary in it.
Thats what you compare it to, not World Jrs. or Indy racing.
But again AR you were the one that was stressing that it was WORLD Championship
Well it is the World Championships, what else am I suppose to call it.
"WDHIII" said and if so it should garner the same coverage from ALL papers, not just the locals right?
"Alta_redneck" said Nice coverage of a world sporting event Calgary media.
I guess they took Saturday off.
There's 4 Canadian men in the jump final, 2 Albertans in 1st. and 3rd. going into today, and I had to go to the WWC web site to find that. Nice job.
Nope, never said that at all. That came out of your head when you wanted to turn it into a Cal. vs Ed thing.
You need to know when to keep the gun in the hoister and and think a minute or so before you draw.
"WDHIII" said I realize that coverage outside Calgary wont help the numbers but I didnt see that mentioned in your original post;
How about it being about a City's media supporting their own events. Water Skiing is a niche sport, and if it's not a major event the local media should cover it and put the stories out on the wire for who ever wants to read it. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that way.
"WDHIII" said you just thought it was shi**y coverage
I agree tho - the print media could have more on it.
Well after all that I've come to the conclusion that we both agree it has gotten shi**y print coverage.
The 2 Albertans are from my neck of the woods and I like to be able to follow how their doing. But now that I had to dig up the WWC site I got it under control now.

Well if its a WORLD even then wheres the REST of the media? Nothin at all in the Edmonton Sun or Journal
If Calgary want these events, cover it. If they don't, send them up the Highway.
I didn't know it was up to the Edmonton media to cover things in Cowtown.
