FORT MYERS BEACH: Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Scott Janke says he was fired Tuesday night because the town council learned that his wife is a well-known porn star.
A website that follows the adult industry published an article last week entitled "Pol

You wouldn't happen to know those Italian porn-politicians Martin?
I just found this joke on the net: Italian politician and porn star Illona Staller rose to fame when she campaigned for Parliament topless. Not one to rest on her laurels, she recently showed up at the Vatican for a meeting with the Pope... again, topless. The Pope met her at the gate. "Dear lady!", he said, "You can't come in here like that!" "And why not?", Staller asked. "This is a church, and I have a divine right!" "Hey," the Pope replied, "You have a magnificent left, too, but you STILL can't come in here like that!"

Well, if the laws there are anything like the laws here then you are wrong.
First of all he is within the first 6 months of his job and typically that is a probation period.
But even though it is a probation period they need to be reasonable if they decide to let him go.
If they gave him 6 months severance and healthcare benefits that is very, very generous.
Perhaps he has a case for something else…discrimination, slander…but that would be pushing it.
You can fire anyone at anytime without reason as long as you follow the generally accepted rules for dismissing a person without cause. Around here it is typically 1 month salary per year of service.
To get six months severance after 5 months of service – that is extraordinary.

3 months probationary in Alberta anyways, and you can fire someone for no reason with no explanation in that time. As far as severance goes, it only counts if he accepted a severence package, they can offer and he can refuse at which point he could still make a court case out of it
So? Not aimed at you Caleb, the subject of the article on the other hand raises a big who the fuck cares.
Ditto!
This makes the news?
Are they going to start firing people because their spouse works in a sex shop, sells hot-dogs from a cart or is, oh no, a lawyer?
Besides, there are former porn-"actors" in Italian politics and there is one in the states that may try out for senator.
Could be interesting if this goes to court.

Why would you marry someone who makes a living doing other guys?
I myself wouldn't, some people don't care about it though obviously.
there are enough statements in that article to warrant a case for unfair dismissal.
Im sure after a lawyer or two show and start poking around, all kinds
of good stuff is going to pop up.
Technically, you are right.. they dont need a reason; and, when you can
keep your mouth shut about the real reasons for firing someone, no problem.
However, in this case, everyone will blah blah this and blah blah that.
Easy win
