My home town and I know GrandChief Mike Mitchell personally and he is a man with integrity and honour..This is not anything new aT THAT CROSSING POINT EITHER..

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the federal government who'd be the cause of a violent confrontation. The American customs agents are armed, and have been for a long time, yet we don't hear of any violent confrontations at that crossing point. Most likely it's because those who would be agitators know they'd get plugged if they tried to start something 'violent'. Canada has a less than stellar record when it comes to dealing with the criminal elements in native societies, and the criminals and their supporters know if they push an inch the government will give them a mile.

Does this mean that the residents on the reserve will be on their own, cut off from Canada completely?

A federal Canadian border crossing should never have been on a reserve. this was a huge screw up in the making.

the smugglers from that reserve are a very small percentage of the population.. Most are great honest hard working folks.. I know I grew up with them, played sports (Lacrosse) with them .. I even played with Mike Mitchell, and i'll tell you some of the best high steel iron workers are from there.. dont paint them all with the same brush.. Its like the old saying.. when we doing something wrong no one forgets when we do something good no one remembers..Thats boirder crossing on the reserve has been the focal point for problems for many, many years.. And yes I have personally seen the BS that goes on there .. There is a special lane for the island resident to cross back and forth manned by a Native oficer, but when the Can Customs guys are on they like to jerk them around a bit.. I know ive been the point of it myself.. I used to go to the Isalnd on a regular basis when I was an official for the Lacrosse games held in the Turtle Dome there.. .. So dont put all in the same light please

Maybe if the Canadian government lived up to treaties it and antecedents powers signed, we could move forward and appeal to reasonable people on reserves. More than a 100 years of delaying and preventing land claim cases from being negotiated honestly is a national SHAME. Embarrassing, because it means we don't live up to our word. Up until the 1970s, politicians refused to admit Eugenics programs, cultural extermination and theft of children with residential schools was unacceptable.

It wasn't Aboriginals who came up with race based reserves. It was a racialist Canada.

If your word is your bond, we as a nation have lied for longer than any single human being has lived.

Mandate land claims and arbitration, pay out what we promised, and create a political, educational and social framework to rectify the separation by race that was UNCONSCIONABLE.

The Mohawks were given land grants for services rendered to HM government. Just like the rest of the UEL's, German mercenaries and the others who supported the Crown during the American Revolution.
Like the white guys in Belleville and London, they sold their land off in time. Why should they get it back when they sold it?

The Mohawks are immigrants like the rest of us. Read the history. There is no 'treaty' on this.

When the majority of Canadians turn on their taps, they get water treated by mechanized systems that other taxpayers paid for as a collective, that you or I could not singularly pay for. When Aboriginals point out they have sick water on a third of reserves, people pretend they didn't hear that. Cholera and dysentery should not be acceptable in North America.

You dodge the obvious. The Mohawks sold the land grants they were given when they, as immigrants from the US, came to Canada.

Read the history and spare me the rhetoric.
