Racism 'alive and well' says B.C. mother

I am surprised that racism towards blacks still exist on Vancouver Island. I live on Vancouver Island and have never seen real racism towards to blacks.

Racism exists everywhere. In this day and age, it's an individual thing more than a cultural thing though. And I am damned happy with that.
We will never be able to make it go away, sadly enough.

I'm not surprised, racism/bigotry/intolerance is everywhere.
I'm not saying that it's rampant, just that it's something we'll never get rid of completely.
People will always search for differences in others... color, religion, sex, sexual preference or political affiliation... instead of looking at what they have in common.

Human nature, I guess.

I know it exist, i just didn't think it was at that level on Vancouver Island towards blacks. Natives, yes but blacks no.

I have no hopes for racism to go away especially with some religions promoting it.

In the working class here in Toronto there's some anti-black sentiments. It's pretty mild though. The guys I drink with will bitch about blacks being backward and that. They'll be civil to them in person though. I don't think it's much of problem. Lefties, academics and journalists often report how racist Canada is but I doubt a real racist would be tolerated in a human resources position that could affect hiring.

Mid twenty years olds punching out a black on the street is a pretty ugly scene.
