US Navy: sonar impact on endangered whales negligible

JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- The Navy believes sonar in a planned training range for submarine warfare off the coast of north Florida will not disturb calving by endangered North Atlantic right whales, it said in an environmental impact statement Friday.

    The Navy needs to practice sonar anti-sub marine warfare. It looks like they are doing everything possible to minimize the effect on marine mammals, but the coast line needs to be protected.
