B.C. considering cell phone ban for drivers

especially for those taxi drivers.hey those taxi drivers don't have to wear the seat beats either..some exclusion for them because they get in & out of the car so much...???

Its about freaking time? Geesh!


I don't know why they don't have to wear a seatbelt in Canada, but in Holland, it is because then they can't get strangled by it by the not-willing-to-pay/mugging-customer, and that they have more freedom to defend themselves against muggings from customers. (at least, I was told so by a cabdriver...)

Is this a complete ban of cell phone use or can you use the cell with a blue tooth device?

The article doesn't say if it's for hand held cell phones only.

We've had a ban for hand helds in Quebec for a while now but I still see people in their cars talking on cells though.
Easy to see that these people are not paying as much attention to driving than they should.

It seems logical to me that it's about handheld devices, and that a headseat would be fine.

One more thing that we won't have the personnel to enforce.

With cell phones its not just the holding it (although that makes it worse) but the concentration it takes off the road. A lot of that is conversation dependent but its pretty easy to get distracted on the phone.

Yeah, but if we had detectors on the roadways that would pic up the cell usage coming from the car....live camera to ensure that is it indeed the driver of a vehicle using the phone, then,........guided missile to take that driver OUT!.....

most people will comply simply because its the law.

Really? I don't know about that. Cell phone use is so deeply ingrained with this generation that I'll be some surprised that banning it will make much difference.

Fact is, there's more than enough evidence to say it's dangerous, yet people do it anyway. Kinda like parents who smoke in the car with their children. There seems to be an inherent belief in these people that their personal liberties trump everyone else's.

Ship them out by UPS.
