Alcohol fears led Ottawa to withhold hand sanitizer withheld from flu-ravaged reserves

In the critical days after dozens of Manitoba aboriginals fell severely ill with swine flu, Health Canada hesitated in sending desperately needed hand sanitizer to native towns because of concerns that people would ingest the alcohol-based gel.

    Why is it up to the Federal Government to supply hand sanitizer..I am quite sure that no one else gets this service.

    I thought there was just a study out this winter that said that these hand "sanitizer" products don't work worth a shit anyway.

    Remind me...did Walkerton get any special government funds or services when their water supply was tainted?


    Most of the reserves have very little running water. Specifically, Garden Hill has 200 houses (out of 480) with water and sewer connections; St. Theresa Point has 218 out of 532 houses with water service, and 168 have sewer connections. The on-reserve population of St. Teresa Point in 2004 was 2,972 people. Wasagamack First Nations has 91 houses (out of 243) with both running water and sewer services.



    Of course that would not occur to you that people live in third world conditions on some reserves.

    Gee, to think some people actually pay money to have these services installed,

    Cause Natives aren't able to wash their own hands.

    Natives, like our resident racist Donny, should be embarrassed that his own people are too lazy to fill some jugs of water to keep themselves clean.

    Having been on a reserve without running water or sewers, we managed to keep ourselves clean just fine. Guess it's easier to cry foul and have the government teach us how to wash our hands.

    Pathetic.

    You know the cost of treating one person with swine flu could probably pay for 1000 bottles of hand sanitizer a day.

    But I guess you rather pay the big bucks so you can complain about the cost of the health care system.

    Donny: I've been really clear that the water supply problems on reservations are a crime that has gone on for far too many years. There is a big difference between supplying and maintaining water purification gear and supplying basic cleaners and groceries.
