CBC Newsworld is reportedly in the midst of a "renewal," poised to embrace a CNN-style format of round-the-clock news with a focus on personalities rather than in-depth coverage, according to several senior CBC staffers.

And there goes any thought of quality reporting at CBC News...

No, bad CBC, bad! What will happen to all those kick ass docs that are late at night. Bad CBC. No tax dollars for you.

CBC has a 24 hour documentary channel. Been getting it on TelusTV and checked it out a bit. Won't be subscribing(every month TelusTV shows a channel or 2 for 1-2 weeks that subscribers haven't subscribed to), but it seems decent enough. Had an interesting Documentary about the East German Trabant earlier that was very interesting.

Doesn't CBC already offer a 24/7 news channel ? We have RDI here since maybe 15 years.

Sort of, it's "on" 24 hours but it plays a loop. I for one would love to see a 24 hour news network in Canada but would prefer if it was a private company like CTV.

CBC Newsworld doesn't update after 11pm, I think.

Don't we have ctv newsnet and cbc newsworld already? I don't want another 24 hour channel that can be condensed into 20 minutes segments on an endless loop. I'm sick of that and the ones we do have are becoming Nancy Grace gab fests that are just below the food chain of ambulance chaser in my book because they just sit there and yak instead of doing the footwork themselves.

It's lazy, it's cheap and it's BORING. I want some real meat to chew on like a frontline documentary. What the hell happened to shows like W5 or 60 minutes, they are staffed by geriatrics!!

Now that would be great to see. Some type of hard hitting investigative journalism.

I think you're right though the more I think of it. Look at CNN/HNN. Even though they're 24 hour the shows they fill the time with really don't add much. Nacy Grace (as you mentioned), Lou Dobbs, and other of their likeness are really what's wrong with US news media.

How about CTV Newsnet? Same idea, right?

They have a show about twittering them. End of flippin' story. We don't need that. Especially when our tax dollars fund the CBC.
