First of all, more people should be in anger over this subject since it was Obama himself that stated that there is no 'buy America' clause, repeatedly I might add, to reassure Canadians during his messiah, blown way out of proportion, costing millions for security for a few hours so he can buy a cookie, visit. Now we get reports that contracts cannot be done because products are labeled as 'from Canada'.
Second, this article is nothing short of a crap-shoot of Harper wanting to 'propose' new laws into NAFTA, by which the U.S is already disregarding in any case, to circumvent the 'buy America' clause which doesn't exist but does and nobody cares because Obama can do no wrong.
Any Canadian proposal to add a new chapter to NAFTA, however carries the risk that the United States will demand trade concessions in other areas.
Excuse me? You want to add a new chapter but at the risk of Americans other concessions?????? How about this proposal. Start up trade as it was fairly and get rid of your buy American clause that you said would never happen and allow Canadian goods to be fairly labeled or start building up your supply of firewood because you're going to need it. By that I hope the on-going lumber dispute doesn't blow in their face.
NAFTA has always screwed us up the rear end. We should seriously all be very upset over Canada getting shafted. We should be learning in this area how to maintain as much production in Canada as possible so we can end our dependence on US trade.
Point is that if it's made in Canada, sold in Canada by a Canadian company and used in Canada it will do far far more for our GDP then buying cheap crap from Wal-Mart.
So let's get this straight: The locals mills are shut down and there's like 50% unemployment but it would be illegal to use an employment grant to hire local guys out of work to redo the sidewalks because it's unfair to a Texas company who could come up here and do it cheaper with illegal Mexicans? And someone sees something good in there?
