Canada should be willing to offer prescription heroin for intractable addicts the same as any other treatment for a medical condition, a high-profile federal Conservative says.
A great idea for sure, it'll keep the addicts from turning our cities into cesspools.
Oh sorry, it's 20 years to late. Where do we stop, do we give crack to the crackheads, alcohol to the alcoholics, and marijuana to the school kids?
This is another lame attempt by the government to deflect the topic of conversation from the real fact that they're never gonna spend the money required for mandatory treatment and costly social care for this segment of society.
I guess it must be cheaper to keep the freakazoids permanently stoned, so they can continue to wreak havoc on the less affluent segment of society, rather than making all of us, the wealthy included, pay for their treatment.

Ironically ridenrain once claimed he'd love to see a party run under the banner of allowing heroin users to use legally (paraphrased). I guess he got his wish.

use one half of the poor to kill the other?
That might be the plan, but unfortunately most of Canada's former middle class is becomming poor, so that leaves the rich who'll be the only ones unscathed in their gated communities........... by crime.
So why should they help pay for these peoples treatment if it doesn't directly affect them????????????????
I know that Europe in general treats addiction more like a disease and less like a crime than we do in North Amrica, but I am not sure that it is anymore successful than what we are doing with methodone already.
From my understanding the physical withdrawals from the drug when you are trying to get off of it are pretty brutal but methodone is suppose to minimize those withdrawals. I think in general Canada has less of a problem with Heroin than most European countries so I don't know if we should automatically adopt their policies. I don't agree with creating a safety net where people who turn to drugs can turn to the government when they can't afford it. I say if you don't want to deal with the withdrawals, don't start using.

Only if the addicts could be taken from the ghetos and held untill they are clean. The emphisis must be on cleaning up the adicts and not enabling them.
These addicts are a huge problem and if we can't cure them, we need to at least get them off the streets and away from the public.

Even you must appreciate the irony of this and see the humour in light of a previous post.

Mind you, will they come up with child porn to the pedophiles to feed their mental health issues?

Cigarettes to the smokers... ya missed that one.

I know, but I didn't want to offend any junkies, you know how they are about those evil
But you're right about where does it end and when the fuck does anyone start taking responsibility for their own actions.

I thought methadone was issued to heroin users?
It is and the government pays for it.
So my guess would be that it's cheaper to buy heroin than methadone since you don't actually have to pay a pharmacutical company to produce it.
All you have to do is make a phone call to Bogata and bingo you've got your treatment plan on the plane in an hour.

And Britain's top cop was an advocate of the idea as a means of preventing crime:(Sorry old article)

Why offer heroin when you can help this persons with a substitute?

The idea of giving out free heroin but only if they brng in the head of other addicts would work though.
