General Motors Corp.'s move to file for bankruptcy protection was a “regrettable but necessary step,” Canada's Prime Minister said Monday as the federal and Ontario governments agreed to lend the auto maker $9.5-billion (U.S.) in exchange for partial owne Comments

Then it's not a loan, is it? It's a gift. And I veto this 'gift'. Let Mr. Million Dollar bonus step up before you start using my money.
more of your money would be gone if they didn't bail them out.
More of our money WOULD NOT be gone if we didn't bail them out. All we had to do was give the bailout money to the soon-to-be-ex-employees as a one-time payout. It would have cost taxpayers exactly the same and those dollars would be being re-spent in our economy right now instead of having disappeared like a fart in the wind.
Isn't this the same guy that said:
As he touted a carbon trading program and pollution limits opposed by the oil and gas industry, he told the annual premiers' conference here that Ontario's concession to curbing emissions would be to adopt California's tailpipe standards for new vehicles.
Here's the response:
How about your proposed Carbon trading program devastating Alberta? Oh yea I forgot it appears that the rest of Canada can lose jobs as long as it's not Dalton's home province. Hmm, must be the center of the universe thinggy.
With Ontario a have not province, I think Dalton had better rethink his idea to cap green house gas emissions in the oilsands, since Alberta will be paying the lions share of the transfer payments.
If they shut down big oil, the only thing Ontario'll be getting in transfer payments is the sand.
We now own 12.5% of GM. Will we see any money ? Not. We will only pay for their debts. Pay for the company but don't get the car. Harper is out for me.
Don't kid yourself.... The Libs or NDP would have done the same thing....

They would have done worst. But I vote for ideologies. Next time it's for an independant.
Sigh. You guys got in on the mess too? Good luck getting yourselves out of it.
when we compare the canadian and american economies, we sent much more money. we are about 1/10 of the american population but we have 12.5% of GM and the US only own 60%.

Neither of you kid yourselves. The Libs and NDP would have done better, much better. Liberal prowess on the economy is well established and the NDP would have insisted and gotten much better deals aimed at the workers rather then bailing out the executive pay bonuses.
What I think is that the NDP would have almost nationalized all the industry to keep the jobs. The Libs would have done much like Harper did. So what's the difference ? I want a fiscally responsible PM.
Aside from the fact that you are simply guessing what you think they would have done then holding them accountable based on that assumption you are also assuming neither the Libs or NDP would have a financially responsible PM.
The Libs showed they were financially responsible and then some. Why do you think Iggy is saying he won't take take hikes off the table which the CPC is using against them? Iggy is saying he won't rule them out he is being responsible and saying he won't dig us deeper into debt or cut spending without considering all the options. The fact is that we might just have to accept a tax increase.
The NDP might have nationalized the industries but frankly when both Canada and the US are saying we are going to own parts of GM thats what we are doing. The NDP would also have made any deal more responsive to the worker. Remember how angry we were when the airline bailout was followed by stories of record bonuses to execs. Even more pissed off when the auto execs shafted us.
I wanted a PM who would not send us into deficit and I was willing to accept a GST hike or other tax hikes. The fact Harper is using that to attack the Libs proves he doesn't care about the deficit or debt.
Financial responsibility is just that. You do think about tax increases when its the responsible thing to do.
