A proposed $31.5-million national soccer development centre would not only benefit the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but could be used by Canada's national teams, visiting clubs and recreational leagues, Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi said Saturday.

That $17.5 million would be better spent to allow kids throughout the province who can't afford to participate in sports to finally be able to do so.

This is a good investment IMO. Not a big Soccer fan, but this is the type of investment that will pay for itself many times over.

I thought the new stadium where Toronto FC play, was suppose to be the National Soccer Centre.

BMO field is called that during international matches (FIFA). They are planning on expanding the field too and adding in real grass, which would be so sweet. The place is unreal to watch a game. Best atmosphere and not a bad seat anywhere.

I'm not a soccer fan but I also thought all FIFA sanctioned games needed to be played on natural grass. Which is why Edmonton gets World cup qualifiers. BMO recieved funding as the National Soccer Centre, but then rolled out the field turf.

I guess that's why we need another one built.

Typical of govts right across this great country of ours. Millions of dollars available to build fancy, state of the art edifices to play games in and the homeless can go to hell!

Sure.. We definately need more free and unregulated crash pads for the addicts in the most expensive property in Canada. Since the police already have almost a hands off policy on addicts, they should be allowed to break into vacant apartments and live there. After all, it's just another insurance claim so it's really a victimless crime.. :D

..bit of a rant but I'm tired of us taking care of people who refuse to help themselves.

I agree with you on the 'tired of helping those who refuse to help themselves' point riden. I'm talking about those who want a 'hand up, not a hand out'. I am well known in such circles for having and voicing the attitude ' I'll go to hell to help you, but if you want to go to hell or stay there, then you are on your own'!

Or they could use that money to address the shortage of doctors in northern BC.
