Just saw on CNN that the plane landed in Missouri and they figure the pilot was a naturalised Canadian Citizen.

I guess they'll be able to confirm that if they catch him. Apparently he took off right after he landed and they can't find him.

Either way, I can see it comming, the US news will be claiming that Canadians are still allowing terrorist to attack the US.....................just like 911.

    A 172 isn't much of a threat.

The story said the guy was up at 14,500 ft? WTF? You're supposed to have oxygen above 10,000. Wonder how long he was up there??

The guy wasn't supposed to have the plane either, so flying at 14,500' didn't concern him.
I've flown at 11,000' and skied at 14,000'+ and it wasn't a problem.
The police are still at the hanger........too late boys the plane is gone.

It depends on the person and how long you're up there, but extended time above 10,000 can be a real problem. Especially when you're the one that's flying the plane!

It depends more on the amount of exertion you're applying to the activity and yes the amount of time spent. I was up and around 11,000 pulling some pretty good G's but I thought the skiing at 14,000'+ was way more exhausting.

The O2 above 10000 must just be a precaution. In Colorado there are a bunch of "14rs" (mountains above 14000'). You can hike up them, you pretty much are above 10000' for the entire day. Not much of a problem. I hiked up 3 of them and I am not in super shape, just OK shape. Doesn't sound like this guy was much interested in following rules of any kind.

Buy the way the hike starts at around 3000' from the summit, you park your car and go from there. So you are above 10000' all day. Most of the hikes were around 10-12 hrs round trip.

Also in the article they said a 172 can do a max speed of 227kph. That's around 139mph but I don't think you can get it going that fast without plugging it nose first in the ground. I thought around a 110pmh was about it.....but it has been years.

Yeah, you are right, kind of a dumb comment by me. Who knows where the parts would land, shooting it down would be a bad idea.
