Sad thing is Obama may very well drag Canada's economy down with it unless we change our economic policy and return to a more protectionist country.
Quit sending jobs overseas and buy Canadian made good first.

Cheap goods made in Asia and south America put Canadian's out of work. We need more restrictions on those kinds of imports and exports of Canadian manufacturing jobs.
I'm not for Free Trade, but FAIR TRADE!! Some people call that protectionism, others call it just being realistic and being a nationalist.
Obviously they dont care or want cheaper goods because the consumers are the one's doing the buying.
Even the union boys shop at walmart.

No people can buy goods from where ever they desire, but it's the Governments duty is to tax goods being imported from low-wage countries that force employees to work under unsafe conditions and long hours. (or have no choice)
We are promoting countries to abuse the poor every time we buy cheaply made products.
If they want to sell goods in Canada, they should be forced to provide a standard wage and safe working conditions in their country.
It just seems a little selfish or greedy that Canadian's should enjoy a standard of life and not care about the conditions others are put through to provide cheap products for us.
At the same time we must also look to protect our manufacturing base from these companies that abuse this unbalanced trade situation, by making it expensive to import into Canada... again protecting Canadian jobs.
There is noting wrong with promoting buy Canadian made products 1st, it's just part of being a proud Canadian. (the same reason I would think you are on this web forum, because "Canada Kicks Ass.")

In 2003, federal authorities arrested 250 undocumented immigrants who were employed by janitor contracting services and hired by Wal-Mart in 21 states. Many of the janitors - from Mexico, Russia, Mongolia, Poland and a host of other nations - worked seven days or nights a week without overtime pay or injury compensation. Are you then prepared to have our already inflated government introduce price controls to protect the consumer that is being corralled into buying domestic from being gouged to support bloated unions and greedy execs?

o.k. Gunnair, you have a good point. But how is protecting Canadian jobs from countries expoliting their workers a bad thing?
It's sorta like the Cultural protectionism that Canada has in force now, but just to protect our economy against low wage countries that abuse their workers or do not provide work force standards. (safety, wages, etc.)
If Canada has to compete on the world market, shouldn't Canadian businesses at least have a level playing field to compete against...
The United States already has protectionist measures in place against Canada, beef and cattle trade, timber and so on, and that list may grow as the U.S. economy weakens further.

And as for the printing extra money, didn't Russia try that? All I recall about that is something about a wheelbarrel full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
