The Canadian Auto Workers union on Sunday announced a tentative deal with General Motors on Sunday, as part of the company's North American restructuring.
Wow... only $7.5 billion form the taxpayers of Canada? Did the Gov't get shares or a voice in how GM operates? What security did Canada get in loaning this almost failing company Canadian taxpayer money?
How many people work for GM in Canada? The article says 10,000, and I'm curious how many indirect jobs depend on the auto maker (parts manufacturers, etc).
Even if the number is 100,000 indirect jobs, $7.5 billion is a lot of money to prevent that many people from being unemployed.
There had better be some strict oversight on this money.
I've read today in a french newspaper that it would not be far from enough. It would only reduce about 6% of the spendings while it should be AT LEAST 20%.
