"Converted" isn't the word I'd use. Joined or "Jumped on the Jihad-wagon" might be more correct.

    (From the website she ran:)

Khadija Abdul Qahar is a devoted Muslim who created this web site.
Since 2002 she has operated a totally independent outlet for news about the Middle East.
With almost no resources, this tiny but remarkable woman raised the bar for courageous reporting.
She knew that her integrity would be attacked by both sides.
But Khadija appreciates the kind support from fellow Muslims world-wide.
Her primary goal is independent journalism that provides an alternate voice to Western media.
She was aware of the risks involved in her latest journey, but had faith in those who were supposed to protect her.
Pray to Allah that she will be allowed to continue her efforts.

This site will resume operation upon her release.

    This is a scam.

Well I guess she wanted to be a muslim and I'll bet she's going to find out first hand what it means to be a muslim woman over there.

She already converted before she left.
This is like me going to mexico, blowing all my money on booze & hookers then crying to the government that I've been kidnapped and need plane fare home.

.. although..It would be funny as hell to mount a hostage rescue and kill all her little playmates on the way out. I somehow doubt we'd get a thank you.

I think I agree with RR here.

A scam, PR, an attempt to blackeye the West, whatever.

A hostage rescue ?.. we would get sued :)

Welcome to Islam, religon of peace. How's the alternative view working for you ?

I wonder if she's asked them about their views on women?

I doubt that she asked and looking further into it I can't find the video anywhere on the net. The CBC aired it apparently but I can't find it anywhere on their site either.

I honestly hope it is a scam but even if it isn't she should have known better then to run over there without any kind of protection. Sadly I can't help but refer to the one and only line for these situations.

    "We don't negotiate with terrorists"

Let her consider it a learning experience.

Sadly it's likely a learning experience that may cost her her life.

I think she should be nominated for a Darwin Award if she does die.

Touche it would be well earned indeed.

I wonder what colour of acid she prefers be thrown on her when she gets too up-itty.

I guess the real question is, is this band of taliban (tali-band?) part of a bigger group or just out for themselves.
If they're on their own, I could see them killing her but that would be dumb because useful educated idiots like her are hard to find.
Martyrs are far less valuable than a media savvy Islamic salesman.

It's such a shame that the Taliban flew all the way to B.C., kidnapped her in B.C. and was able to fly back to Afghanistan with her as a prisoner. What's that?

Beverly Giesbrecht was reportedly working on a documentary for the Al Jazeera network in November when she was taken at gunpoint along with her translator and guide in the Bannu district near the Afghan border.

Oh, I see. She went into the leeches swamp to do a documentary for a network that is known to sympathize with terrorists and now we should care because the leeches have clamped on? Tell her to call Al Jazeera and ask them to fork out the $150,000.
