Is this because their Soldiers or because their French? This dosen't sound all that common in other parts of the country.

Its because the military wants to cast a wide net over the issue. They want to make sure that the friends of the 38 year old stay back a little bit to give him some support. I dont think the fact they are French has any bearing on this.

I wouldn't worry about those soldiers, anybody who calls the police claiming they wanted to kill themselves will not actually do it.

I dont know about that, Im sure that once or twice the police have arrived to find the caller dead. I cant remember any such cases involving soldiers though.

It is quite obvious that you have no experience in such matters, and that is a good thing! Your post brings to mind the old adage 'Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

Nothing new here. Didn't a number of soldiers from Quebec test positive before their last tour in Kandahar? 8O
