The navy is making plans to refit a 40-year-old Halifax-based supply ship that completed a $40-million refit in 2005, raising questions about a replacement program that ran aground last summer.
When you don't have the $$, you don't have the $$. If the new ship were to be Built here, I'd be ok if they threw its' cost into a Stimulation package. Assuming it could be started right away.
Ive said it before, I'll say it again. The Navy is by far the most neglected service in the CF. We need to focus on replacing alot of our ships or risk having it become obsolete.
"You very quickly become penny-wise and pound foolish because after a few years of maintenance, you’re able to look back and say, ‘Gosh, we maintained these old ships just to keep something going and the amount of money we have spent on maintenance could have bought us a brand new ship with everything in terrific shape.’ So the idea of trying to save a few bucks now very rapidly becomes a mug’s game because the cost of maintaining a ship like that increases geometrically as it gets older."
That's why we need the JSS ordered right away, not in a couple of years.
"martin14" said 8 years to agree on a ship, holy fuck we are stupid
Its cuz the stupid politicians just seem numbers and not common sense. They look at it and say "hey why spend $2.9B on two ships, when I can spend $40M on one?" Then they forget about it for a couple years when the military comes back demanding a new ship again because that one is still falling apart.
