NEW YORK - Investigators provided a dramatic detailed account Saturday of the ill-fated US Airways flight that crash-landed in the Hudson River, with the pilot telling controllers just moments after takeoff: "We're gonna be in the Hudson."

This will rank with the Gimli Glider episode in terms of skill. Captain Sullenberger had a split second to make a decision and made the only one that was right. How he managed to keep from snagging a wing and cartwheeling is a minor miracle. He also had the pitch attitude exactly where it needed to be - amazing seat of the pants flying.

Awesome job by the pilot for sure,I would have thought the engines would have caused mayhem when they hit the water.I think a 727 or something other with a diferent wing configuration would have cartwheeled.

3 pilots in my family and they all just shake their heads when they saw that.

It sounds like an engine or both may have ripped off as they are designed under certain circumstances - not sure tho. It seems that there was not enough differential drag from the engine pods when the aircraft made contact to cause any problem.
