So far, there have been only rumours about what happened between the two crew on the bridge before the crash – Lilgert and Bricker, former lovers were working their first night shift together after recently breaking up.

The two have remained tight-lipped since the crash, speaking only to investigators from the Transportation Safety Board -- which, in its report, said the two were distracted by a "personal conversation" before the ferry sank.

There needs to be a serious shake down on policies and procedures when a personal conversation between jilted lovers can sink a ship and drown people.

Either BC ferries management uses the Peter principal as promotional criteria or she was hot and put out. Either way, the people on that ferry were the losers and had to pay for her incompetance.
By one reason or another, they'll burry this and no one will lose their jobs.
    Way to go Union.

She, her former lover, and the one that should have been there with her but was eating, are all fired.

Simply getting fired for an event of such magnitude dosen't make me think better of BC ferries management or staff.

You mentioned no one would lose their job. 3 already did.

They are not shoving anything under the carpet. They are doing the best they can.

Do you think they should have been charged or that they should have been fired?
Do you think this is "the best they can"?

Who, the people that caused the accident or their bosses?
I think they are in court now, and that we should wait with jumping to conclusions.

Actually, the question to be asked here is whether or not the helmsman was required to know how to navigate.

When I read the article, I was rather taken aback by the tone which suggested the helmsman should have know where they were and how to carry out the navigation of the ship. Certainly in the navy, those jobs are not done by the helmsman, but by the Officer of the Watch who is responsible for the ship's navigation. The helmsman is responsible for steering, making pipes, dealing with alarms and system failures, but certainly not navigation.

I'm curious to see what BC Ferries' reaction will be confirming or denying the accuracy of the article.

It doesn't really matter if she was supposed to know... She didn't, so what was she doing there alone in the first place?
The ones who DID know where not there...
