Gen. Toshio Tamogami was sacked from his position as air force chief after he took top prize in a contest in which he suggested Japan should cast off the widely held views of its World War II culpability – and "regain its glorious history."

Ask the surviving comfort women or victims of Unit 731 how they "reflect positively on it."

Rofl, what the hell was he thinking?

That's almost as bad as Iran stating the halocaust never happened, well maybe not nearly. Nothing really comes close to that but it is still pretty bad.

That's a slap to the face of those countries that that suffered from Japan war crimes.

"I was fired after saying Japan is a good country," he told Parliament. "It seems a bit strange."

No, you were fired for being a complete ignorant asshole infront of the countries who you just slapped by being a ignorant asshole.

I remember visiting my brother in 1983 who was teaching English in Hachioji and finding out that most of the teens and early 20's kids were of the perception that the USA started the Pacific War and then a-bombed Japan to prevent Japan from becoming a global power. None of the kids I met had any idea what "Pearl Harbor" was past it being a place in Hawai'i.

My point is that revisionism is nothing new in Japan.

The education system in Japan is odd. Most of the teachers (at least in myexperience) are left wing and/or pacifists, but they only seem to hire right wing nut jobs who believe in revisionist history to teach.

Yes there was, I remember because as much as I disagree with your politics and attitude at times, you are a fierce defender of history. That alone gives you my respect.

I think the last thread only concerned him winning the contest, not getting fired.

So one recent weekday afternoon, the Housewives' Association of the Construction Workers' Union of Tokyo visited Yushukan...

    The what?

Thanks - believe it or not, sometimes even my politics change depending upon the issue. And sometimes its just fun to play Devil's advocate.

I'd agree with that. But, I'm not looking into every discussion for every political argument you ever made. I have better things to do on the Internet, but you argue very well, and as much as I'd like for you to cut some attitude (except a few select cases, history revisionists are a prime example) you're still a great poster
