RCMP officer failed breathalyzer after fatal Delta crash: police

well it does look a bit questionable.

and it isn't the first time police have been given a lighter stick when it comes to their indiscretions.

Doesn't bode to well for overall faith in the force that is for sure.

oh hey, it was just some biker scum anyway. RR will be happy.

And the cop will have a merry Christmas, knowing his name is safe.

And in January, we will all have forgotten about this,

The officer was given a court date to appear, and released. Charges have been recommended to the crown. They are contemplating these while investigation continues. How is that any different than you or I would be treated?

I don't honestly know if the average citizen would be treated any different, and that's still a pretty sad statement. The guy definately needs to be charged though.

Hmm wierd. CBC is changing the story a little. I think the problem is that he was released without charge after failing a breathalyzer test following a fatal accident. I'm sure something will happen with him, but it's good to keep an eye on these things.

Whenever someone who is in the driving profession(trucker,bus-driver,taxi-driver) and they get a DUI or ordinary citizens they are criminally charged and lose their license for one year.When a police officer gets a DUI they are criminally charged although at worst the get a conditional discharge and for the one year period their license is suspended it's adjusted to a restricted license so they can drive only if it's work related and this has happened in Regina and Saskatoon without any exceptions.However I am aware of a regular citizen getting a restricted license after a DUI although he did acquire a criminal record.

This is one of the 4 officers who is on paid leave, pending the investigation reguarding the death of Robert Dziekanski. The RCMP are letting Delta police handle it. None of that affects this investigation however.

THIS cop has the blood of two people on his hands... And the RCMP will do there best to make it all go away and protect the great rcmp name..The type of personality of this man and what he thinks about human life is really showing....... The airport killing and a drunk driving .. This man is a real HERO or should I say Zero.......

No, but it affects the perception of the RCMP, and certainly should affect the consequences for the officer. He should be stripped of his badge for life and go to jail.

or is it unfair to actually expected cops to be law abiding even
in their off hours ?

Of course Delta Police should handle it - it happened in Delta, not Richmond.

In a perfect world that would always be the case - the local officers would investigate. But when an officer of a police service is involved, it seems to get murky.
