The Martin Mars water bomber based in Port Alberni was poised to assist in fighting raging wildfires near Los Angeles last week but instead got mired in bureaucracy, said the aircraft's owner yesterday.

    Lucky the Santa Ana winds were short lived.

    Same that this kind of red tape can slow the rescue of a few houses.

    hey we have two Canadian Superscoopers on lease from Quebec here in San Diego...i can't believe our military hasn't been certified to fight fires here in the States yet
