QUEBEC -- Abortion rights activist Henry Morgentaler was awarded the Order of Canada on Friday as a few protesters voiced their opposition outside the Citadel in Quebec City.
Supporting single moms and supporting abortion are two entirely different issues..the question is do you support right to life or the right to choose..
off topic a bit but they sure did their back door work to present this award. they said finaal details of site and time etc was just working out yesterday..08/10/09 but other recipients said they knew weeks ago...
"robmik43" said The Order of Canada has just been made a disgrace.
You mean your avatar doesn't really reflect your position....????
I have a beautiful daughter. The circumstances of her birth weren't ideal but I will do anything for her and always have. I also have a beautiful lady in my life that was a single mom. I am also against abortion. What the hell is your point...???
"scarecrowe" said Morgentaler did all for the money. If he did not make a penny for the service then I would agree that his award is deserved but that is not the case.
That's a strange thing to say... If he was poor and performing abortions, then it would be ok. So an award is worth less if you've made money doing what you were awarded for?
So, this Auschwitz survivor put his life at risk, he went to jail, he went through numerous court cases. His most recent case is for trying to obtain public funding for abortions.
Now I'm certain that Morgentaler is no angel, but let's agree that his motives are a little more complicated than "He did it for the money".

this "Auschwitz survivor" who is not one, this guy deserves a swift kick in the ass and a plane ticket to anywhere but here.

If he was not paid he would not have done the work, plain and simple. Money was motivation to take the risks he did.
He could have made a living performing "normal" medical chores and then performed abortions pro bona.
He went to prison and suffered fire bombings to his clinic. If he was just doing it for the money, he could have set up a small private practice someplace and done very well. The argument that he did it for the money is just stupid.
I'm glad he was recognized for his work over the years.
I notice it's the Conservatives who are against Morgantaller. Hang on to your wombs, ladies, the boys in the blue sweater vests would take control of them if they could.

Congratulations Morgentaler!
I've heard he's a member here so he might read that.
