well, 1 KM is not really that much higher than the Burj Dubai which is going to be in the 800-850m (rumored) range once its complete.

i wouldn't work there , if a fire breaks out your dead man. With all the desert around there to build on its just for showing off and not for safety

When countries build the tallest whatever in the world, it is usually a sign of hubris and the country is likely peaking.

    Sell Dubai.

thats why Dubai is building, the UAE will run out of oil in the next decade, they want a draw to the region, so this is why they are building the tallest tower and such, they want to create a tourism industry. 25 years ago Dubai was a backwater fishing village, today Dubai is spectacular.

More so than tourism, Dubai also wants to create a hub of commerce in the Gulf region, a Switzerland of the Middle East.

That's what parachutes are for. Myself, I'd consider a fire as a valid excuse for a BASE jump.

When they mentioned atrium in the middle I was thinking of hang gliding but getting it up the elevator would suck.

Seems to be a lot of money to spend just so Tiger Woods can shoot golf balls off the roof helipad into the harbour. Let him build his own fucking tower dammit!

Dang that's tall. I'm getting a tingly feeling in my toes just thinking about that tower.

I've been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi both. It's all window dressing. As to becoming a big tourist draw, who the hell wants to go somewhere that arrests foreigners for drinking fruit juice? Conservative elements are the ones running the show there now.
