Starting Tuesday, Canadians will be able to register their phone numbers on a national do-not-call list, but they may find telemarketing calls replaced by junk mail and spam.

Works well in the United States, I am sure it will be the same for Canada.

As far as the threat of direct mail, you can tell your local post office to not deliver direct mail.

I'll take anything I can get, I am so bloody tierd of Tele-marketers. I get like 50 tele-market calls a day. Really pissing me off, I just want to find every single one that has ever called me. Punch them in the face, then call it a day for the rest of the afternoon of pure silence before they get the balls to annoy me the next day with another 'deal' for a couch, or a cellphone.

my direct mail goes to a superbox.

So I take everything that I dont want, and jam it down the slot again.

In the USA, if you ask a telemarketer to put you on their do not call list, and they call back, you have the right to take the company to court and sue $500 for each and every infraction.

I remember having a good laugh reading a blog about a person who made it his personal hobby to sue them.

Took me three goes yesterday, but I got
registered. There may be a challenge to this "system"...
anyone can register any phone number they want, there's
    no verification requirement...seems pretty loosey-goosey.
