Harper is paranoid. His security situation is no different than Martin's was or than Chretien's was.

It has nothing to do with his paranoia and all to do with the RCMP who is detailed to protect him. They are the ones who assess the potential threat and act accordingly; he has no say in the matter. I think it’s detrimental to him during an election campaign to have a huge buffer of security staff between him and general public. It’s a politician’s duty to shake hands and kiss babies during an election.

Regina, Harper has used the RCMP to avoid answering questions from the accredited press. He has more security around him than Chretien did immediately after 9-11. He refuses to show up at town halls, something that both American candidates, who are presumably at more risk from both foreign and domestic attacks, have done.

What it looks like is the Bush campaigns. Only show up where the crowd has been fully vetted and nobody questions or boos you. Only allow a small number of the press to ask questions. Whenever possible, vet those questions beforehand. If that's not possible, vet the reporters. If a reporter insists on asking hard questions, quit calling on them. If the press corps as a group asks questions you don't want to answer, use the RCMP to shut them down.

That's not security, it's hiding. We deserve better.

Harper's expression of self importance is so far out of control, wanting to resemble George Bush.

Who would honestly waste their time in their day to go after Harper? He's nothing.

I don't know about that, everyone on the loony left seems to think he's the anti-christ...

    Dion would.

We're a peaceful bunch though. Besides, the Conservatives have all the guns.

Sorry not buying the party line.
