By one calculation, Canada could replace the navy’s combat fleet for what Ottawa will end up spending on the military mission in Afghanistan.

    Yes, instead of spending money on a war. We can spend it on replacing our combat fleet.

    That's really idiotic, what's the point of replacing or upgrading a combat fleet if everytime you would go to war, everybody bickers at the price of a war. Wars are expensive. If everybody is going to bicker at the price of wars, and would rather just keep upgrading our navy instead of going to a war which is why we have our military. What is the point of upgrading our military?
