The coast guard is considering buying 10 mid-shore patrol vessels instead of the dozen originally planned to reduce costs.

Yeah, why bother investing money protecting our shores when we can have another tax cut...

unfortunately the ops budget for the coast guard hasn't been increased much in the last budget.

I was hoping for about 10 % increase. That way any capital projects won't need to come out of ops.

I bet they will correct that with some increased funding in the near future. The Coast Guard is going to be an integral part of northern defence and monitoring so I do not see how this can be accomplished without an increase to their budget.

You would think with the $8.8 billion in pork they could have found a little to deal with this?

Makes his talk on the carbon tax sound downright absurd. Thanks for pissing away a surplus that took us over a decade to get asshole.

Leave it to the Canadians to turn a fishing trawler into a minesweeper,a real "get er done" attitude eh?

We guard the coasts in a Staunchly Maritime

    through our airports.....

Look at the bright side, atleast if they can actually catch up with other boats (Being slower and all). They can atleast scare them off by having a presence there. Why actually need a boat that can actually catch drug dealers, boats carrying illegal immigrants and other illegal activites when you can get not the same thing, with a tax cut. Gotta love our government, we are good at stupid.

Harper hasn't done shit for the navy or coast guard lately either...other than cancel and postpone projects he himself promised.

Well with only so much to go around in the Defence Budget boots, and the fact that the Navy is not actively in combat unlike the Army (and the Airforce boys getting our us and our stuff there), I can understand how they may have been over looked for the past few years, not making excuses, just stating the truth.
The difference is though maybe in the past 30 months, the Navy did not reciev much, the Military as a whole has done much better than when the other party sent us into combat in the first place.
