Canadian and Afghan troops successfully pushed back a group of insurgents who attacked a road construction project Wednesday in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar.
What the hell, are they cooking the asphalt in clay pots over an open fire? Including a few rain days and nobody shooting at the paving crew, this is a 3 week project, on a modern 2 lane Canadian highway.
It would also become 40kms because it would be paved twice in that time.
You almost hit it on the head man, as far as their Tech. It is one of those feel good projects, employs the locals, so they are obviously in no hurry to finish the job, that and the fact the road in question runs from Mas'n Ghar to Sperwanghar (spelling?) a stretch of road that is certainly one of the SCARIEST places I have ever travelled.
Ya the road from Spur'wan'gar to Ma'sum'gar (I had to look up the spelling and out of the 5 different ways these 2 were the closest) is pretty hairy. You dont have eyes on the whole way so IED's can be set up easily. One of the scariest for my roto was Route Ottawa. 2 call signs were blown up, one dog handler was almost killed and the dog was turned into pink mist in the first 3 months. Not to mention after we cleared 75% of the route we came under direct and indirect fire. Nothing worse then being shot at when all you have to return fire is a 9mm and a mine detector. Good thing we had the 25mm on the LAV 30M away .
Yeah I can’t even begin to imagine what your up against there, I was totally shocked that their still measuring the finished highway in meters and not kms.
It would also become 40kms because it would be paved twice in that time.
