As the first member of the Canadian Air Force to wear a turban, 2nd Lieut. Jasbir Singh Tatla figures he's a good role model to issue a call to arms to his fellow Sikhs.

Then it's back to Esquimalt to learn French to go along with the five languages he already knows -- English, Punjabi, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu.

"I want to learn French because it makes your chances for promotion greater," Tatla said.

That should be on a big billboard in Surrey, but you would have to post it in Punjabi, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu. :D

Im with the camp that you can wear whatever you want on your own time, but there is a reason they call it a uniform. Im not just against the Sikhs, I also think that if you’re a native you should not be allowed to have a pony tail or a Mohawk. I know Streaker is going to come on and say I am a racist or a bigot, but this is just my personal opinion, I am not going to push it on to fellow soldiers. I don’t feel I am being racist at all, I just feel that special status should not be given to anyone because of your race or religion. Gender, yes, I am totally cool with women having a different dress code from men.

This is newsworthy because it's never happened before apparently, and Canada has the whole Multiculturalism thing going on.

P.S. Where the fuck is Brampton anyway? :?

Im sorry many in the Air Force not are not warriors, they dont tell you what trade he is going into either. It will be interesting to see if he stays in through the whole training.

As an ex-pat Brit I can say that I have never had a problem with turbans and uniforms. Sikhs have been fighting with and for the British for generations. They have a noble warrior mentality which really is little different to the Anglo-Saxons.
When I came to Canada in 1994 the whole 'turban/rcmp/legion' thing was on the go and I always thought that the turban and red serge went well together, kind of 'Bengal Lancer' look.

I have to agree with with einsapper, Air Command is hardly the rufty-tufty outfit a real warrior joins, but hey, he is 35! Good for him though.
Personally I think all this 'look a brown guy joined up' stuff is a tad pathetic.

He's a Canadian. He joined up, good for him. End Ex.
