"I wonder how they would feel if we now dispatched humanitarian assistance to the Caribbean, suffering from a hurricane, using our navy," Medvedev said, adding that a whole U.S. fleet had been dispatched to deliver the aid.

I dare them to do it! While they are there, give Cuba a few nukes for shits and giggles.

Various navies were used to send aid to the Tsunami hit countries. Canada used warships to ship aid to the US after Hurricane Katrina.

It's not as if its "never done". I bet Russia would love for the US to send aid on unarmed defenceless transport ships that it can board and seize at its leisure...

If they had a Navy worth shit, it might be a problem, but as it is now it would be rather difficult for them, to be delivering aid in ships that are so shoddy they're permanently welded to the jetty with rust.

How many nukes does Canada have?

You see this on your shoreline I'm sure the reaction would be very different then that reaction to one of our city class cruisers:

^^ Needless to say Russia has, under Putin's presidency re-modernized and refitted many of their carriers, as well as cruisers. Russia is a superpower. America cannot dispose of Russia the same way it has with Iraq.

    "It's complicated"

What does it matter? The US wasn't sending SSBN's to deliver the aid.

So why the picture of the Typhoon?

It was sending warships that are nuclear capable:

The McFaul, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, is outfitted with an array of weaponry, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, which can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads, and a sophisticated radar system. For security reasons the Navy does not say whether ships are carrying nuclear weapons, but they usually do not.
