MONTREAL - Opposition politicians attending a rally blasting cuts to federal arts spending quickly distanced themselves Wednesday from remarks by one speaker linking Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
This simply reinforces my opinion of the "arts community"..
they espouse and encourage radical knuckle-dragging
idiots, who in turn, do their organizations harm.
The last 20-30 years, more and more uneducated morons seem
to feel a need to compare politicians who do not bend
to their will, to Hitler....about whom they have obviously
zero knowledge.
For a group that prides themselves on their "gift" of creativity, they sure are predictable. They need to shout this louder. More punk bands with rude names need to get far too much air-time swearing and criticizing the government, and sounding like the total spoiled brats they are. Folks need to see the caliber and class of these "artists" and the money that's wasted on them.
I think to the credit of most attending the rally, the article indicates that they "quickly distanced" themselves from these comments. Comparison to Hitler used to be odious. Now it's just tired and indicative of a lack of imagination. Not exactly a good way to get your point across either.
Hundreds of Quebec singers, actors, dancers and writers gathered in a Montreal square to condemn nearly $45 million in funding cuts announced recently by the Conservative government.
Hippy useless people anyway. Maybe now they'll move to France.
I'd say some overzealous, overemotional individuals fell prey to empty emotional rhetoric. You'd think some here would empathize with the fuzzy logic.
Hitler comparisons have become banal and unimaginative and the fact of the matter is that many people today really don't possess much knowledge about him (expect to portray him as the Evil Bogey Man) to warrant much commentary anyway.
"Streaker" said He's more a Quisling than a Hitler.
You're calling Harper a traitor? How so?
Bends over for the Yanks too much.
As opposed to selling Canada to China like Chretien?
Little more details:
In a rally Wednesday that cut across partisan politics, artists including playwright Michel Tremblay and La La La Human Steps founder Edouard Lock signed a letter urging the Harper government to rescind $46 million in cuts it has made to several arts funding programs.
At the end of what was meant to be a satirical sketch about "artistic degenerates," Walter Boudreau, an artistic director, flashed a Nazi salute and cried "Sieg Harper."
Sounds to me like the news dept. really wants to push that this was a large, grass roots type feeling, and not the actions of some rogue artists. Based on the crap here, I's say it's not that uncommon.
