First, I'm totally shocked this hasn't been mentioned before, but this is...wow.

A small, pro-western government was basically invaded yesterday. The Americans, but I think the European Union will seriously consider getting involved due to the energy, possibly even militarily...if this lasts long...

    very interesting one this one..

Georgia has been getting American military help for a couple of years now,
military advisors on the ground, equipment, whole nine yards.

The fact that Russia finally invaded is no surprise.. wonder what the Americans
    will do.

You can forget the EU.. too dependent on Russian gas already,
and no guts for fighting, especially for Georgia.

Thats an American baby, nice way to get the third front on Iran too ;)

Nobody will help Georgia, Russia will shoot the shit out of this small country for as long as it suits them.

I'll admit my knowledge on pipelines in Central Asia and Eastern Europe suck, but wouldn't this energy transit thing they mentioned in the article benefit Europe over everyone else?

they cant risk the Russians turning off the pipelines already set up.
    Last year Ukraine and Beloruss.

That new pipeline IS important for the future, bringing Russian gas out
of the middle of the country, but it could be moved to another country..
prolly will be if this gets out of hand; which it very easily could.

Remeber the squabble few months ago about the Russians putting the navy into
the Med ? well, the other side of the Bosphorus is the Black Sea,
and the other side of that is Georgia..............

Wow, that escalated quickly. There's direct engagement between Russian and Georgian forces.

I was wondering when US investment in Georgia was going to come to a head.

Hmm, I guess this is alot more serious than I originally though. The markets are making a flight to US assets for security. Russia's market is down 6% on the invasion.

You are right on there. The US cannot afford another war right now and technically Russia is an ally as well. Europe won't get involved either due to Oil they need out of Russia.
If you ask me though, this is just the first step to Russia regaining ground lost when the USSR broke up, we will see an escallation of fighting in the area and when this is over Georgia will be a Russian province.

Georgia was very close to being a NATO country. That could have had huge potential for escalation.

the world: huh? ..what did you say about olympics? invade? no, russia would never do that, especially with the world distracted..

but as Georgia is a NATO country, there is very little the west can do. Any escalation would be regional.
