OTTAWA - The federal government should "rebalance its priorities in Afghanistan" to focus on reconstruction, development and peace-building efforts, an all-party Commons committee urged in a report released on Thursday.
All these folks who say Canada should "refocus" on development and reconstruction all ASSUME that someone will put out and replace us in the combat role.
Yeah...a bunch of guys showing up with hammers and shovels are sure to convince the Taliban and the warlords to stop shooting, and making bombs, and put all their efforts back into medieval social repression and the cultivation of even more drugs.
Actually these reconstruction projects have turned villages onto the side of NATO, infact have even turn some villages into picking up AK-47s and RPG's of there own and fighting the taliban themselves. They even got quit a big number of taliban deaths on there hands.
Its the result of the construction of there city, rather the de-construction reality of warfare. People want to see schools, hospitals, houses, markets, jobs being built. They don't want there houses, there city and life being blown up in order to fight the taliban. What would you do if a country invaded yours, starting blowing shit up all around you and turned your street into nothing but rubble or a ghetto. Which infact one of those countries (US) was the one in the first place that turned a stable country, that was runned by a dictator into getting rid of him, BUT un-stabalizing there country afterwards and turned there country into what it is today. Poor, Hungry, Pissed off, and Un-organized. With Taliban infesting there country and controlling everything.
Idk what you people don't understand but fighting in the taliban is not the solution to winning this war. You kill a taliban, and another one will be there to replace him. Have you learned nothing from this war, or the other Afghanistan wars?
The key solution is to re-built Afghanistan, where theres a government doing its job. Fully trained police, and soldiers doing there jobs with a public that support them. Without the publics support of this, there is no future for it.

You what they say about making assumptions right?
Why do you assume that assumption?
Anyhow, no big deal if no one takes our place there - what we're doing there presently is wasting loads of money and, in the longer term, making Canada less secure from terrorism.

Given how much trouble Canada has had in the past trying to get more countries to assist in the south I feel safe in saying that finding a few thousand more troops somewhere to engage in combat is not going to be a simple task.
You think we are wasting money now Streaker, just think of how much money we'll be wasting once the Taliban start blowing up all of our reconstruction projects because we pulled our troops off the front lines who were protecting the areas being rebuilt.

The Afghans are a waste of money? I disagree.
