"There's the horn and . . . they'rrrrrrre off!" If Joe Carbury didn't have your attention before, he certainly has it now.

To bad CBC's only showing a couple of races a night. That's kind of a slap to Joes face, IMO. It don't matter who calls the races it won't be the same, we've listen to Joe's voice for so long now that next year I think I'll just turn the volume down and I'll still hear. " There's the horn........ And theirrrrrrrrr offf.

Shaw Cable (channel 10 here) shows all the heats and they let Joe make the call - might have to tune in the 9th heat on Sunday just to see the end of an era.

    But youre right....

It WONT be the same :(

Ok I’m going to phone Bell right now and tell them to add the Shaw channel to their line up. Now I’m really irritated.

Oh well the memories will last my life time.

Stampede attendance is down 55,000 and they blame it on gas prices, pleeeeese!!

Try a more realistic excuse, the Calgary mayor is lining his pockets with kick backs from useless road construction.

Calgary has to be the only city in Canada that rips up a perfectly good pavement (52nd Street in the Foothills as an example) to put down new pavement.

I just wonder how much the Calgary mayor is secretly getting in kick backs from these construction companies, and what Cayman account is he hiding it in, out of sight of from Revenue Canada??

Calgary roads suck, construction and detours everywhere, who the hell wants to drive into the city, much less to the Stampede.

Attendance is down at the Stampede because it sucks... considering the population of this town grows every year that should be enough to maintain attendance figures despite the drop it tourists. Same old boring fair year after year except for the gate fee that changes every year

Well construction during Stampede happens EVERY year so why is it just down THIS year?

Hmmmmmm let see - what COULD be the difference between this and past years...

ANYWAY - back to topic

Gee wonder who you voted for in the Calgary municipal election.

Start a new topic on the road construction and maybe AR and me can try explain why it's necessary.

No not at all (and youd be wrong  )

I just pointed out the flaws in your road work/attendance down theory - dont even remember mentioning the mayor

Well I happen to think that road work has much to do with attendence this year for a couple of reasons.

If you work in the Foothills or any industrail area in the S.E. or S.W. and you spend 45 minutes just to get out of an area that generally takes 10 to 15 minute on an average day, you don't want to come back into the city on the weekend.

I would rather go for a drive to the rockies, rather than deal with Calgary traffic, and Calgary construction any day of the week.

The traffic and my 1 hour drive to work, and 1 hour drive home is seriously making me reconsider my employment and have started to look locally, and yes gas prices has a small part in that, because sitting in a lineup for 20 minutes wasting gas cost money and time I would rather be at home.

Not sure why you would think it would be necessary to go thru those industrial areas to get to the Stampede but youre entitled to your opinion - as I already pointed out construction happens during the Stampede EVERY year as its bound to when you have cram so much road work into so few months. And if the question is WHY are they digging up "prefectly good roads" then maybe you should do what Zig suggested and start a new thread so he and AR can explain it to ya.

I guess the other difference this year is it happened to affect YOU

I am talking phycologically, a persons mind set.

My co-workers are happy to get out of Calgary when they can.

Which reminds me, I'm off to go fishing. Later.

It just hit me why the Stampede has 55,000 people less this year.

Harper didn't show up in his Gay Cowboy outfit.

Although attendance is a gauge for success, according to the stories I’ve seen on the Calgary news hours this week. It’s the number of STD’s reported in the health region this coming week and the number of divorces in the next 6 months that counts. ROTFL
