The Canadian Forces needs to "overachieve" in its recruitment targets to fill the void left by a wave of retirements that's already begun, Canada's new top soldier said Saturday.

if the 490 billion becomes the new budget than recruiting will take care of itself. No one wants to join an underfunded military, luckily things seem to be going in the right direction in that regard so let's hope we meet our targets for recruiting.

Other countries like Australia have an overseas recruitment program that offers people with prior military experience an opportunity to serve in one of the three forces (navy, airforce and army). They pay for your move after you are accepted and you get citizenship in 3 months. This type of program could could work for Canada. Or offer another program where they have to serve a minimum period of service.

I spent 25 years in the CF and did a lateral transfer to the Australian Navy. This program works.
