Dion said his decision not to topple the Conservatives should not be viewed as a show of support for the government, but a strategic move to await a more opportune time for a campaign than the dog days of summer.

Dion wants to wear his "flip flops' all summer.

    Suppose these three things happen.

    * The Arctic ice pack doesn't melt by September to the levels green activists are hoping to see, and can point at as proof of global warming. That bet is starting to look better every week.

    * Canadian weather continues to get colder over all, as it has this last year.

    * The price of gas continues to rise.

OK, so then we have Canadians going to the polls in icy temperatures, looking to vote in an election based on a tax based on the idea a catastrophe of climate warming is coming.

Will the writer of that article still be oohing and ahhing over the masterful strategy of political tactician Stephane Dione's hinting hopefully at an Autumn to winter vote.

The rising price at the pumps will do more to curb personal automobile use than any stupid carbon tax....and that will still have ZERO effect on the environment.

Let's just check that old track record again:

Jonathan Kay on Stephane Dion: Now is the winter of the Liberals' electoral discontent ...

"It's a bad government and we'll choose a time to defeat this bad government. You will see. But it will not be at this time where we have a snowstorm in Ontario and just before Easter. I don't think Canadians want that."
    - Stephane Dion, March 7, 2008

"It's a bad government and we'll choose a time to defeat this bad government. You will see. But it will not be at this time where we have summer vacation about to start -- not to mention the NHL and NBA playoffs. I don't think Canadians want that."
    - Stephane Dion, May 7, 2008

"It's a bad government and we'll choose a time to defeat this bad government. You will see. But not during hay-fever season. Half my caucus is on Benadryl and... well, trust me, it's just not a good time."
    - Stephane Dion, August 7, 2008

"It's a bad government and we'll choose a time to defeat this bad government. You will see. But the rest of the year really doesn't look good. Tomorrow is Yom Kippur. Then we've got Birth of the B'ab -- no, I'd never heard of it either, but apparently it's a B'hai thing. Plus, Simhat Torah, Diwali, the Wiccan festival of Samhain, the holiday honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom, the Ascension of 'Abdu'l-Baha, and then the Hajj, Chanukkah and Christmas ... You get the picture. Hey -- Why don't you get back to me in 2009? February or March could work ... you know, if the weather is ok."
    - Stephane Dion, October 7, 2008

    :D
