They were out of shotgun range from what I can tell. That's a job for a good varmint rifle like a 30.06 Winchester.

Off topic (sort of) you'd like these new .45 rounds a friend cooked up for me. He drilled them out, filled them with mercury and then capped them with lead and cupped the tips. Makes a very dense bullet that virtually explodes on impact.
