    Oh man, that's hilarious!

Would this be the network equivalent of the "New Coke" fiasco?

Apparently it was all about the money...so much for good faith negotiations.

The song, which was created by Vancouver's Dolores Claman in 1968, will now be used in NHL broadcasts on TSN and RDS beginning this Fall. In addition, CTV will utilize the song as part of its hockey coverage during the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Good. Now the "hockey theme" will be associated with hockey and not just CBC broadcasts.

Maybe Mother Corp could have Don Cherry sing "The Maple Leafs Forever" as their opening music. :D

Now they just have to show some games. I don't recall seeing many hockey games on CTV.

Haha, I LOVE this. Go CTV! Another nail in the CBCs coffin.

Yeah TSN shows a lot of hockey RUEZ, and CTV and TSN are owned by the same media conglomerate, so on TSN hockey games we'll see the HNIC theme song now!

oh, and its just a matter of time now, once the CBCs NHL contract expires that CTV buys that up too.

I don't like this at all. For me the song is synonymous with CBC and Hockey Night in Canada. That's the network that built the brand and that's where the song belongs. I won't be watching TSN hockey with or without the song but I will still watch Canucks games on HNIC.

Doh, seems I should read all the posts before responding...

Anyways, I'm in agreement with this comment.

CTV stole the HNIC theme from CBC?
Well, I will save you the trouble of reading the expletives that come to mind.
    CTV is dead to me.
    TSN is dead to me.

CBC spent decades bringing hockey to every Canadian and now the greedy old bag sells out to CTV?

    Dolores, you screwed Canada!

    BIG 2x!

CBC is too wrapped up in their mission to redwash "Canadian culture" and just like curling and CFL, the'll soon lose hockey too.
