Independent Canadian breweries are warning consumers that the cost of pouring a pint may soon rise, due to soaring malt and hops costs, as well as gasoline price hikes.
Breweries became larger and more centeralized because the cost of transport was less than the efficiencies gained by mass production. Transport prices rise so costs get passed on to the customers. That's fair and logical.
Almost every city however has a craft brew market who are local, distribute local and recieve their raw materials, mostly, from the west coast. While their actual costs to produce will rise a small ammount, I predict that they'll stay in lockstep with the big producers just to screw the buyers.
They could undercut and hype their neighborhood status and increace their market share.. but they won't.
