ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Call it the oversight that wiped Newfoundland off the map. It's a bureaucratic blunder that can be traced to December 2001 when the province of Newfoundland officially changed its name to Newfoundland and Labrador - meaning that th

It should be for being the setting for the horrible book "The Chrysalids". Plus I'll make it my personal mission to destroy New Zealand for that shitty book too.

It would look to have been newfoundland's doing not Ottawa.
It's a wonder the doper's of BC haven't attempted to remove BRITISH from that province's name.

They haven't yet, but give them time. As is stands now, a group of idiots wants to change the name of the Strait of Georgia to the Salish Sea, and the Government is actually considering it.

Maybe when they get the cost of this stupid move they'll reconsider it.

I kinda doubt it's the dopers though, given the history of the "Georgia Strait" newspaper that was the voice of the counter culture for years during the apex of the drug culture out here.
