Roger that, he is the best of the best and the architect of the postitive changes that brought the CF from the dark ages of being a paper tiger to a well equiped force to be reckoned with. His vision of how to structure the forces through the four new commands to meet any contingincy directly influnced the thinking of Liberal and Conservative PMs, allowing them to once again make Canada a player on the world stage. I have no doubt he will continue to be an outspoken advocate for Canada and the CF. Godspeed to Canadas finest CDS ever.
I wonder as well Regina. I have met three of the present 3 stars. Davidson, Robertson and Leslie. All came across as first rate to this old sailor.
IF Hillier does go into politics, I have one word of advice for him. Lighten up the hand shake!!! The man brings a vice to the action in the form of his right hand. LOL
I would guess that a Navy man would be next in line as the last CDS was an Air Force pilot. I am surprised as to his timing because I would have thought that he would wanted to see his tranformation through further than it is now. It is definitely going to be a daunting task for whomever replaces him.
Definitely going to miss him. Too bad I never got a chance to meet him though.

Hey Wullu, out of the three you have met, who would you pick for the next CDS? Just wondering since I don't know that much about them.
Leslie is a soldier in the vein of Hillier. Of the two sailors, both of them come across as very able and personable, of course for all eight three stars, you don't make that rank by being a slouch. Not sure who I would pick really. If only Buck or Dusty Miller were still in. Now there were two old time sailors!
Definetly am not a fan of the "whose turn is it?" idea. Pick the best Admiral/General for the job.

I'm with you on the whose turn is it deal, the CF is not a union, and the CDS position should go to the best and brightest, no matter the uniform. As to the next one, concur Leslie is prolly on the short list, but I think he and Hillier clashed on putting Tanks in Afstan. I think the VCDS, LGen Walter Natynczyk has the inside track. No doubt there is still lots of politics to be played before someone is picked.

I agree with the best man for the job idea but I was under the impression that it is cycled more or less through the three services.
After reading the General's letter on the CF site, I think I will have to extend the man-crush I have for good Canadian boys like Mike Holmes to General Hillier.
I can't remember where I saw that recently. The aluminum induced memory loss must be in high gear. Gear? Yeah, Top Gear is a great show...

A fine gentleman indeed.
(Top Gear rocks, but Clarkson is a wanker.)
